Grey-Bruce Coatings & Insulation - History

A Brief History...

Grey-Bruce Coatings & Insulation was founded in the fall of 1974 by Gord Harris in Bognor Ontario. The company specialized in both interior and exterior structural & decorative waterproof coatings. This was a very weather dependent type of business therefore another product line was introduced.

Urea Formaldehyde Foam Insulation was chosen to fill the void created by the energy crisis of the mid and late 1970's. This insulation was strictly a cavity wall insulation. To round out the insulation products Gord added, Blown Cellulose Fibre, Fibreglass Batts and Rigid Foam Board to the company's product line.

In the early 1980's, Polyurethane Sprayed-In-Place Insulation was introduced. This particular type of insulation was used mainly in the commercial and agricultural markets. Thermal and acoustic barriers were soon acquired as a fire resistant barrier to protect flammable insulation, steel beams and concrete and for acoustic dampening purposes in pools, auditoriums etc., where sound is a problem. Currently our greatest use of polyurethane foam is in the insulation of crawl spaces, basements and walls in renovation projects of older homes.

Grey-Bruce Coatings & Insulation was and still is heavily involved in Energy Efficient Housing. Initially as a certified R2000 builder, plans evaluator, inspector and air tightness tester, and more recently as ecoENERGY advisors, we are well-versed in modern energy efficient housing techniques. We take energy efficiency beyond the building code.

Another very important feature of airtight housing is indoor air quality. As an HRAI (Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute) certified heat recovery ventilator installer and duct designer we can satisfy that need as well.

In recent years, we have increased the number of custom renovations and additions to our line of services. Having a full time licensed carpenter on our staff has allowed us to expand to meet the needs of our clients once again.

Since 1974, Grey Bruce Coatings & Insulation has been dedicated to providing the best in products, techniques, and equipment to maximize energy conservation, decrease fuel costs and to enhance the indoor environment for our customers.
